Guitartricks How to Play Walking in Memphis (Marc Cohn) TUTORiAL
TUTORiAL | 1.03GB
Douglas will show you the power of a simple chord progression mixed with great story telling. This tutorial takes the original song parts played on piano and applies it to guitar so you can play along with the original recording, the backing track in this tutorial, or on your own solo as a single guitar performance.
While the main instrument is a piano guiding the song along, there are also plenty of other instruments within the arrangement as well. Beneath it all is an easy chord progression with some really cool rhythms and changes, and you can easily play all of those with a single guitar.
I am going to teach you how to play "Walking in Memphis" with an acoustic guitar; covering all the chords, rhythms, and changes. This will include some cool rhythms and strumming, some cool chord suspensions, along with lots of changes in tempo and feel that flow nicely with the vocals. While we do have a backing track to play a long with, this tutorial is set up for you to be able to play this song with whatever guitar you have available to you, or just solo if you want.
"Walking in Memphis" is in the Key of C, and in 4/4 time. Our main tempo is 128 BPM, but we will fluctuate between a few different tempos throughout to move with the feel of the vocals. I will let you know in each lesson where those changes occur, and we will have a click track in the recording to guide you through it.
