In this Homespun series, Roy Book Binder teaches the essential open tunings and bottleneck style techniques in a way that will be easy even for newcomers to slide guitar!


Roy introduces you to open D tuning and alternate-thumb fingerpicking with a version of his original, Travelin Man Blues. This gets you into slide playing and helps you discover how to start improvising on a blues scale.

Once you have the fundamentals, Roy launches into Willy Harris 1928 Never Drive a Stranger from Your Door, Bo Carters raunchy Cigarette Blues, and Jimmy Murphys dynamic country tune Electricity.

In each song, youll learn accompaniment and lead parts, as well as pointers on how to make the tune your own.

Roy then introduces you to Open G, or Spanish, tuning, making use of Blind Willie McTells slide style in his original song Palm Trees Shaking in the Night.
