TIMPHONIA was made using MODWHEEL’S pedal and fixed skin Timpani. The two fixed skin Timpani were retuned to allow recording of as many pitches as possible.
MODWHEEL felt that a lot of other percussion libraries featuring Timpani have been recorded in large concert halls or auditoriums that make the instrument less flexible for using beyond an orchestral setting.

Strained Wire + Garotte

The Strained Wire + Garotte was created using 4 metre lengths of wire and nylon line trimmer stretched tightly over a bridge and sound board. This was struck, picked, hit with a mallet, bowed and generally tortured. A tuning turnbuckle was incorporated to allow tuning of the instrument.

The Xiao is a ancient traditional Chinese, end-blown bamboo flute, also known as the dòngxiao. We have sampled this instrument with true legato intervals all the way up to the octave, and, like the bansuri, have artificially filled in the notes which actually are not possible to play on the instrument physically.

This is the first didgeridoo library EVER which doesn’t rely on sampled phrases or generic uncontrollable drones. Since emulating a didgeridoo is at least as difficult as emulating the human voice, we’ve developed a custom hybrid solution which not only morphs between the different vowel samples, but enhances the vowels with the help of a custom formant filtering engine. So you can really make your virtual “didgeridooist” pronunciations the different vowels and smoothly change between them.

The hulusi or cucurbit flute is a free reed wind instrument from China. It is held
vertically and has three bamboo pipes which pass through a gourd wind chest;
the center pipe has finger holes and the outer two are typically drone pipes. It is
not uncommon for a hulusi to have only one drone pipe while the second outer
pipe is merely ornamental. The drone pipe has a finger hole, which allows it to be
stopped. Advanced configurations have keyed finger holes similar to a clarinet or
oboe, which can greatly extend the range of the hulusi to several octaves.
