SPARK DubStep's powerful, user-friendly interface makes beat- and bass pattern-creation easy, especially when using the step sequencer situated at the top of the default centre panel. Hardware drum machine enthusiasts will feel right at home here. Thanks to advanced looping modes cleverly combined with the XY pad's real-time slicing and filtering controls, users will be producing breaks in no time at all.

Each of the 480 instruments comes complete with 12 sound-sculpting parameters to promptly put your own stamp on the resultant sound: modify the noise colour of hi-hats; clip basses using various analogue filters; adjust the LFO rate and depth of a wobble bass, etc.

SPARK DubStep's integrated 16-channel mixer offers 14 high-quality effects and maps each instrument's stereo output to the host DAW when seamlessly running as a plug-in (RTAS, AU, VST3) with real- time automation available on all parameters. It's possible to export patterns as .wav or MIDI files to the DAW — simply drag-and-drop any pattern from the currently open kit to have it automatically rendered in the chosen format.

Performers wishing to use SPARK DubStep as a standalone instrument independently from a software sequencer and play it from their favourite MIDI keyboard- or drumpad-based controller are perfectly free to do so. Either way, all onscreen key knobs and pads are easily assignable via MIDI.

Kevin Bazell (better known as Kazell) is a British DJ and producer who is now based in Los Angeles. He has released music on well-regarded labels like Alternative Route, Audio Therapy, Bedrock, Perfecto and Lost Language, and his productions have been featured on compilations by renowned DJs like Sander Kleinenberg and Nick Warren.

Aside from a busy DJ schedule - which has included touring with Sasha and Digweed across North America - Kazell also holds down a label residency for his Influx-Audio imprint at the LA superclub "Avalon". As a producer, Kazell consults for software giant Native Instruments. He also recently delved into sound design by working alongside the legendary film composer Harry Gregson Williams to add his own unique twist to the sound of the Disney blockbuster "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian".

Kazell has engineered his re:produce pack to offer a unique look into his world of production.

With this pack I wanted to share some of the custom building blocks I reach for when starting a new track. Greg Chin (also known as "Stryke") is a producer with releases on reputable labels like Plastic City, Tronic Soundz, Ovum Recordings, Hooj Choons, and his own Three-O-Five Digital. He has remixed artists such as Depeche Mode, Pink, Danny Howells, Murk, and many others. He's also a company spokesperson for Avid's audio division (Digidesign/M-Audio/Sibelius) and a beta tester for Pro Tools and its A.I.R. virtual instrument division.

Stryke recorded and rendered the re:produce 002 samples using Pro Tools 8, with the synths and textures all recorded in C Major across 5 octaves, from low to high. (For your convenience, he indicated the tempo of each loop in its file name.) When asked for feedback about the re:produce: 002 pack, Stryke said: "I dug deep into my personal synth and drum programming arsenal to share some of my unique sounds and drum patterns. The synth textures and bass sounds are all exclusive and designed by me. I used Digidesign's Hybrid and Vacuum, as well as a few other rare goodies. I've created new drum patterns at a couple of different bpms, which can be easily used in your projects as well. I hope you enjoy using this re:produce pack as much as I enjoyed creating it for you!"
